Hot on the heels of the very successful BBC Wild Isles series that focused on the fantastic wildlife to be found here at home in the UK, The Northern Light Cruising Company announced today that zoologist and wildlife presenter Billy Heaney (BBC Countryfile, SpringWatch and BBC Radio 4 Nature Table amongst others) and wildlife filmmaker James Stevens (BBC Wild Isles, Countryfile and Spring/Autumn/WinterWatch programmes, plus many more) will be leading a brand new 6-night wildlife-watching cruise aboard the MV Hjalmar Bjørge this September from Oban.
The cruise will circumnavigate the spectacular coasltline and wildlife hotspot of the Isle of Mull, home to white-tailed and golden eagles, red deer, otters and lots more, whilst also making the voyage out past the Treshnish Isles to Coll and Tiree, a very good location at this time of year for basking sharks, not to mention the whale and dolphin species that could be spotted from the ship along the way. Also included is a shore excursion on Mull where guests will be taken into the interior of this mountainous island to look for more encounters with eagles and other land-based species to add to their week-long tally.
Heaney and Stevens will use their knowledge and experience to help find the best views of the species found along the way, explaining behaviours and giving an insight in the evenings into what really goes into making our favourite wildlife programmes. Is it really as glamorous as it might seem and what is it like spending days or even weeks out in all weathers trying to get ‘the shot’ that might only last a few seconds on our screens?
The cruise departs Oban from the 6th to the 12th September 2023. Tickets are £1920 per person and full details can be found on the website at www.northernlight-uk.com
