Christmas is now in full swing at National Trust’s Gibside in Gateshead as a brand-new glittering illuminated trail opened on Friday 3 December.
Visitors marvelled at trees interwoven with neon, colourful strings stretched between towering canopies, singing trees, larger-than-life illuminated crystals plus snowflakes and stars dripping from branches, all choreographed to a soundtrack of much-loved seasonal music.
Festive fun facts about the Gibside trail:
- Christmas Cathedral – be showered in light as you walk under 30m of Christmas Cathedral made of a thousand pea lights
- There are 6 ‘singing’ trees
- 4km metres of string used to create Neon Strings
- 148 candles in the Fire Garden are lit each night
Independent street food vendors bring a delicious twist to tasty treats on offer and visitors were able to toast their own marshmallows over flames and enjoy a *spiced winter warmer as well as *hot chocolates shared with someone special under the stars.
My Christmas at Gibside provides a special way to celebrate the festive season with an unmissable outdoor experience. The trail, which runs until January 2, is designed for visitors of all ages and is accessible to all to enjoy.
