Chapel House Estate in Thanet, East Kent, once a private family home, will be opened to the public for the first-time next spring, redesigned as an exclusive-use luxury destination venue.

The Estate blends seamlessly into the Kentish farmland, less than a mile from the picturesque coast. The extensive venue is located within 25 acres of both organic and considered landscape, providing a unique and natural backdrop for relaxing, entertaining, and celebrating in the most private of country settings.

The reinstated north drive will provide the main access to the estate entering via the private, gated entrance. Guests will have use of a natural grassed carpark for up to 70 cars, including multiple EV charging points as part of the estate’s vision as a modern green provider. Beyond this point the estate has a no car policy as it looks to protect the ground’s natural setting.

The Estate team will greet guests at reception from where they will be able to check in to their accommodation before having exclusive use to wander and explore.

As part of the private stay, guests will be served drinks in the courtyard before enjoying supper together from one of the seasonally designed menus. Dishes will showcase the very best of locally sourced Kentish produce for an inclusive vegan or vegetarian dining experience at the chef’s table.

The estate provides varied opportunities for relaxed gatherings both inside and out, including the beautiful Wild Apple Orchard and the Walled Courtyard. The banquetting barn provides plenty of indoor space for dancing, dining and simply enjoying good company. 

Chapel House, a Grade II listed building dating back to 1290, is the centrepiece of the Estate. Its interior, designed for luxury and comfort, effortlessly capturing the inherent charm and character of the house and its stunning landscaped gardens. 

The house provides a large, beautifully styled master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, complimented by a dressing room with bathroom and two individually appointed attic bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. A large modern kitchen offers the perfect space for relaxed entertaining (although all meals will be catered for by professional chefs). Two elegant lounge areas feature sumptuous furnishings with access to books and a collection of vinyl to play on the up-cycled record player. 

Those guests staying on the Estate will be encouraged to stay through to Monday morning, with hearty breakfasts, lunches, and suppers to refuel after long walks across the Estate, gardens and woodland and a personal driver on call for trips further afield. 

In addition to the three guest rooms in Chapel House, the southwest paddock will house ten private lodgings, all featuring private bathrooms and bedrooms. A 24-hour onsite concierge service will ensure guest needs are catered for, no matter the hour. 

One of the project founders Jonathan Sawyers, says, “We fell in love with Chapel House as soon as we entered the grounds.  Each time we visited the Estate, the more opportunities we could see for creating a leading destination venue. The vast acreage allows guests to disappear into nature whilst the buildings close to Chapel House will create the perfect space for friends and family to enjoy time together.”

Sustainability and the support of the local economy is a big focus for the Estate’s founders who are working towards a low carbon footprint. Produce will be sourced from local farms and the catering will be overseen by the multi-award-winning chef Matt Sworder, himself an ambassador for local suppliers. Transportation to the venue by train will be actively encouraged with a 24-hour chauffeur service shuttling guests where they need to be.
