Fancy seeing in the New Year in style and feasting like a King or Queen while staying in the most unforgettable of settings?  Thornbury Castle, located near Bristol, is the perfect spot to see in 2023.

Steeped in history and set in 15 acres, the Tudor castle was built in 1511 during the reign of Henry VIII and was regarded as one of the grandest buildings of its time in England. It has been the home of kings, queens and dukes over the centuries before becoming a luxury hotel in 1966.

This December sees Thornbury Castle celebrate its second festive season following a multi-million pound refurbishment which has included the beautiful restoration of its dining rooms, lounges, library, as well as its luxurious 27 bed chambers and suites.

Simone Arcucci, General Manager, Thornbury Castle, comments: “Thornbury Castle is the only Tudor castle in the UK which operates as a luxury hotel and restaurant and we are really looking forward to providing a truly unique experience for guests staying over New Year.”

Executive Chef Carl Cleghorn is looking forward to his first culinary Christmas at the Castle and has created a series of mouth-watering menus using the best seasonal and local ingredients from the Castle’s kitchen and herb garden and local suppliers.

Guests will be able to join for either a two- or three-night New Year’s stay.  This consists of:

New Year’s Eve – Enjoy a delicious cream tea on New Year’s Eve afternoon, served between 1pm and 4pm, and maybe relax while playing a range of board games. At 7pm, join us for a pre-dinner black-tie drinks reception with champagne and canapés, followed by dinner and a selection of wines served in the restaurant from 7.30pm. After dinner, make your way to our Tudor Hall to be entertained and dance the night away, or enjoy the evening with a spot of gambling in Tudor aristocratic style. A traditional piper will welcome in the New Year, followed by fireworks at midnight. A glass of either champagne or single malt, plus bacon baps, will be served at midnight to celebrate the arrival of 2023.

New Year’s Day – A delicious buffet breakfast will be served in our restaurant between 8am and 10.30am, after which you may wish to take part in traditional Tudor activities in the grounds, including axe throwing and longbow. A delicious three-course lunch will be served; or perhaps choose a light picnic or a ploughman’s lunch instead. In the afternoon, you are welcome to join one of our fascinating history tours to hear about the castle from times gone by. In the evening, a three-course a la carte dinner will be yours to enjoy.
