Home to the Dukes of Marlborough since 1705, Blenheim Palace was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
Set in over 2,000 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped parkland and designed by Vanbrugh in the Baroque style, it was financed by Queen Anne, on behalf of a grateful nation, following the first Duke of Marlborough’s triumph over the French in the War of the Spanish Succession.
Blenheim Palace is also the birthplace of one of Britain’s most famous leaders, Sir Winston Churchill, and it was his father who described the vista on entering the estate from the village of Woodstock as the ‘finest view in England’.
In 2022, the Palace will be marking the 300th anniversary of the death of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, with a series of interactive displays and events to appeal to visitors of all ages.
From March, it will be celebrating his life and achievements with an immersive exhibition, talks & tours, a battle re-enactment, concert, themed activities and events.
Throughout the rest of the year, there is plenty on offer with something available to please all members of the family, including jousting tournaments, food festivals and flower shows before the Oxfordshire site plays host to a Sony Music-produced Christmas extravaganza at the end of the year.
