Artist Geraldine Pilgrim has created a unique light installation as part of the Christmas light trail at National Trust Stourhead, which opens to the public 26 November – 2 Jan.
‘Two in the Hand’ features dozens of glowing birds sitting in the branches of a tree at the world-famous landscaped gardens and celebrates how the simplicity of seeing birds in a tree can bring joy to us all.
The artwork is part of the illuminated trail which also features sparkling tunnels of light, dancing lakeside reflections, trees drenched in jewel-like, larger-than-life illuminations and a fire garden.
“It’s a dream come true to have the opportunity to create an installation for the Christmas light trail at Stourhead,” said Geraldine.
“I’ve designed ‘Two In The Hand’ specifically for this specific lakeside pin oak tree and I hope the glowing birds do this magnificent landscape justice,” she added.
Geraldine trained as a fine artist and designer and works across the visual arts and theatre. She is known for her evocative installations and participatory site-specific performances which create a contemporary dialogue with occupied and empty buildings, historic houses, and landscapes.
Her installations and performances have taken place in empty Office Blocks, Schools, Hotels, Swimming Pools, Factories and Hospitals as well as Castles, Stately Homes and Public Parks.
