Boasting beautiful beaches, delicious food and perfect weather, there really is no reason
why you wouldn’t want to visit Thailand.

We jetted over to Koh Samui, which is one of the island’s biggest islands and is situated on the east coast. Catering to all tastes and budgets, Samui has a wide range of different resorts and areas on offer. Venturing over to vibrant Chawenga Beach, we spent five nights staying at the luxurious Akyra.

This gorgeous hotel will instantly make you feel relaxed with its soothing atmosphere and welcoming staff. Our bags were taken to our room while we checked in and cooled down with a delicious Thai tea and ice cold towel.

A case of stairs lead down from reception to outside, where there are 65 rooms dotted around. We were lucky enough to be treated to a sea-view suite room, which had a large balcony overlooking both the pool and glorious beach.

The room itself was modern and chic, featuring minimalistic Japanese interior and a huge, high-thread bed that was one of the most comfortable we’ve ever sampled! After a long flight, we were pleased to freshen up in a spacious bathroom that included two sinks and a powerful raindrop shower. Not stopping there, we were also able to enjoy the hotel’s own range of delicious-smelling shower products and the fluffiest white towels.

Other amenities in the room included a coffee table, sofa and wide-screen TV and DVD player– the hotel has an array of films you can borrow if you want a quiet night in.

Just thirty seconds away from our room was the inviting infinity pool that looks out onto a golden-sanded beach and crystal blue sea. Whether you’re a beach or pool person, there are plenty of relaxing sunbeds dotted around and even two lovely masseuses offering their services.

And if you fancy a cocktail in the sun, the poolside bar has an extensive list of drinks to accompany your hard day of bronzing. There’s also a food menu offering mains, snacks and nibbles – our favourite was the bacon, chicken and avocado club sandwich.

Akyra Kitchen – situated at the front of the hotel – is where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast each morning. Fresh fruit, cereals, pastries and pancakes are all available to feast on; while you can also order cooked breakfasts that are freshly made and served to your table.

Guests can also head here for evening meals, where the restaurant provides a whole host of authentic Thai dishes, from a traditional Pad Thai to a selection of fragrant and spicy Thai curries.

If you fancy heading out for the evening, the action is a mere ten-minute walk away. Packed with bars, clubs and restaurants, this lively area is the place to head if you are in the mood for a party. Further along the beach there are also plenty of bars to enjoy a cocktail or two, as well as numerous fire dancing shows taking place.

And after one too many bottles of Chang beer, a short stroll back to our comfortable room and peaceful surroundings meant that Akyra is the perfect place to experience both the luxurious and slightly wilder side of Thailand.
